The distinct textures and dreamlike colour scapes of Hampshire artist Jo Rose will transform The Strawberry Gallery in Milford-on-Sea this November. Her much-anticipated new exhibition, A Winter’s Year, captures the shifting moods of love, loss, and renewal through an emotive abstract impressionist style.
Visitors will have the rare chance to see the body of work recently exhibited at Cornwall’s alternative Sailors Jail Gallery, alongside brand-new pieces unveiled for the very first time.
" I loved Jo’s delicate work,” said one visitor to the Sailors Jail exhibition. “She’s captured the exact feeling of being there. Every time I look at it, I can see, hear, smell and feel being right there. Magical.”
Adding to the richness of the show, guest artist Olana Light, a Portsmouth-based multidisciplinary artist, will present work that explores how human existence is deeply intertwined with nature — creating a striking dialogue between two contemporary voices. Rose and Light are currently collaborating at a Winchester pop-up show, where their shared exploration of stories and materials has sparked a lasting artistic connection.
“Olana’s work brings an element of transcendence,” notes Rose. “Together, our practices speak to the way art can illuminate connections between nature and memory.”
Alongside her paintings, Rose will also present a selection of sketchbooks, offering visitors a rare glimpse into her creative process and the intimate origins of her work.
With its intimate coastal setting and explorative themes, A Winter’s Year promises to be a highlight of the Hampshire cultural calendar — inviting collectors and art lovers alike to experience a journey through landscape, emotion, and transformation.
