JO ROSE is a Mum, Artist and grower of veggies, who dreams of living off grid with her little family, blue whippet and a gaggle of ducks, chickens and various critters surrounding her art studio.
Working as an eclectic Artist, Illustrator and Maker, Jo is inspired by the colours, patterns and textures found in nature and passionate about everything handmade, handcrafted and very, very colourful!
In 2000 Jo studied Costume Design and Theatrical Make-up at the London College of Fashion with a view to working in creature and puppet workshops - but her love of illustration drew her to set up her own small publishing company called Funky Faeries and at the age of 23, Jo began designing and selling her range of greeting cards at major retailers including Paperchase, Liberty, Selfridges, Harrods and John Lewis.
After moving to the New Forest in 2009, Jo fell in love with the enchanting forest and began to experiment with mixed media, texture and pattern and created her highly recognisable and richly textured illustration style.
Jo now works in her studio on the South Coast, creating and crafting mixed-media paintings and sculptures inspired by the forest, sea and the animals that inhabit her world. Jo strives to live and work sustainably and mindfully and the past year has seen Jo's art develop further with the introduction of needle felting and plant dyeing with foraged and recycled material including local food and plant waste.
JO ROSE STUDIO Artwork is now a mixture of wonderfully colourful, magical and quirky paintings and handcrafted mixed-media pieces, which are crafted through a clever combination of naturally dyed, recycled fabric, wool, paint and paper-cutting. All of Jo's art features her quirky cast of furry, feathered and scaly forest critters, folk-inspired patterns and bold floral shapes.
