Starting to write here again feels like embarking on a new adventure, one that I hope will be an interesting way to share my work and creative process. Over the past few months, I've been quieter than ever on social media. There are so many reasons for this: a lack of connection with the platforms, the overwhelming noise, and a growing sense that these spaces no longer resonated with me. It's been difficult to feel like I'm distancing myself, wanting to engage but feeling out of place.
However, during this time away, I’ve been busier than ever. I’ve been pushing myself with my work, stepping outside my comfort zone, and testing the limits of my chosen mediums. I've been "killing my darlings"—sacrificing beloved elements of my work to create something truly beautiful.
Since the passing of 'Wolf,' so much has been happening, and the world feels like such a different place. His absence has affected my work a great deal, and I find myself inspired in new and unexpected ways. I'm driven very much from an emotional point of view, looking at landscapes through past memories as much as being present in the moment. My style has changed profoundly over the past six months, more than it ever has before. I often wonder if Wolfy is channeling through me. I know the love he created is still very much here. Isn't that the most wonderful thing? How death can create such beauty when we remember our beloved ones who are no longer here. This is definitely an important part of my process now.
How often do we allow ourselves the freedom to experiment? To make mistakes and see what transpires when we mix this with that? Or to sit quietly, waiting for that spark of inspiration? It's in these moments that we find our truest, most authentic voice.
Staying away from social media has been challenging, but it has also been the best thing I could've done for my art practice. Without the constant noise and pressure of online engagement, I’ve found the space to grow, to experiment, and to create freely.
Through writing here, I hope to share my journey with you: the ups and downs, the successes and failures, and the discoveries I make along the way. Here's to finding our authentic voices and celebrating the creative process!
I am excited to announce that I will be exhibiting as part of the Hampshire Open Studios this August, running from August 17th to the 26th. Additionally, I will be traveling to the beautiful island of Menorca, where I hope to gain new inspiration. I'll be taking a sketchbook this time and looking for new ways to capture inspiration while traveling.
Thank you for joining me on this journey.
